Blue Ivy Wear a Matching outfit with Mum Beyoncé At The Lion King Premiere

It was always going to be a major moment when Beyoncé, who voices the character of Nala, graced the red-carpet premiere of The Lion King. Last night, at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, the pop superstar did not disappoint. Hand in hand with her daughter Blue Ivy, the family symbolised the film’s over-arching message – the circle of life – with a little help from Alexander McQueen.

The British fashion house led by Sarah Burton created custom looks for Bey and Blue. The “Formation” singer wore a crystal chandelier embroidered tuxedo dress with a dégradé gemstone embroidered skirt. More diamonds laced the straps of her pin heel sandals, her embroidered box
clutch and the jewellery draped around her neck and in her earlobes. Seven-year-old Blue’s look was slightly less opulent but did not want for sparkle. Burton crafted her the same skirt as her mother’s, but stitched diamanté accents onto the shoulders and the lapel of her jacket, which she wore over a classic white shirt. More twinkling stones were woven into her hair.

Beyhive members hoping for a literal interpretation of the film’s animal themes will already have been satiated by the performer’s fierce Georges Hobeika catsuit at Tina Knowles-Lawson’s Wearable Art Gala earlier this summer. The heavily-embellished design bore a lion’s head on the chest complete with a feathered mane that fanned out into a gold cape. Beyoncé’s former Destiny’s Child band members, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, were present at both the annual art fundraiser and the inaugural screening of the live-action remake of the Disney classic.

As well as Beyoncé’s family, fellow cast members of the Jon Favreau-directed film, including Donald Glover (Simba) in Gucci suiting, also amped up the high-fashion drama to pose in front of the theatre’s Pride Rock backdrop. With just nine days to go until the children’s favourite hits cinemas in the UK.
