In a video that has since gone
viral, the cleric maintained that transparency must be a core requirement
before entering marriage, encouraging individuals to gauge how open their
partners are.
“If you want to marry somebody, ask them, ‘Can I know your password to everything that you have?’ If they say ‘no,’ leave them,” he said. “If they say ‘no,’
leave them o! Let them be going their own way o.”He argued that any union
lacking openness falls short of the true meaning of marriage, questioning the
idea of sharing physical intimacy without corresponding emotional and financial
honesty.
“Marriage where there is no
transparency is not… so you can see my nakedness, but you are not open with me?
So what are we doing? That’s not marriage now.
“Do you know what it means for
you to be naked before somebody? The way you came to this earth, somebody can
see your nakedness, they can’t see your account balance,” he said.
Referencing the Epistle to the
Romans, specifically chapter 8 verse 32, Lawal said marriage should embody a
level of openness and generosity consistent with biblical teachings.
“We lie to ourselves and we take
ideologies from people that know nothing about the word of God. Is there
anything that God has that you don’t have access?
“Look at, is there Romans 8
verse 32? If he did not spare his son, how can he not by him give us all
things? It’s there and that’s the typology of marriage,” he concluded.
He further faulted what he
described as misleading modern relationship narratives, insisting that genuine
partnerships must be built on trust, sincerity and unrestricted openness.
