Building The Fenty Empire
In lieu of releasing a new album (we
might be waiting forever, y'all), Rihanna has been hard at work building her
Fenty empire, releasing lines of cosmetics, lingerie, and couture fashion. She
is proving that she has even grander aspirations than a mega successful music
career, and has garnered praise for her brand's inclusion and quality.
A Controversial New Promo
However, Rihanna stirred up controversy on Instagram with a post about her new lip gloss line. In the poolside video of the #GlossyPosse, Chris Brown's song "Come Together" is featured in the background.Brown is Rihanna's former boyfriend and was arrested for physically assaulted her back in 2009. He
completed his probation in 2014.
Fans Had Opinions
The post immediately divided Rihanna's fandom, The Navy. Social media exploded in debate, with some commenters begging her to take the post down and others feeling validated in their continued support of Brown's career post-abuse.
The conversation did have some nuance,
pointing out that Rihanna was allowed to make her own decisions in this regard,
and her fans were allowed to draw their own conclusions as well. They pointed
out that Rihanna wasn't the only out that Brown abused and that everyone should
draw their own conclusions.
