It's finally moving at more than a glacial pace for
The Devil Wears Prada because a sequel is reportedly coming your way!
Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer behind the 2006
fashion comedy, is working on a sequel for Disney, as reported by several
sources. Producer Wendy Finerman
Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Miranda Priestly, as
reported by Puck News, with British actress Emily Blunt returning as Emily
Charlton. However, Anne Hathaway may not come back as Andy Sachs. Praised for
her performance in The Idea of You, she spoke to E! earlier this year and
expressed doubts about returning to The Devil Wears Prada. "I don’t think
a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen," she said.
The trio reunited again at this year's SAG Award. When Meryl
took the stage to present an award, she 'forgot' her reading glasses and the
award envelope. Emily and Anne jumped in to help, handing her both items. Meryl
laughed it off, joking, "Where does the character end and the actor
begin?" Emily said Meryl and Miranda Priestly are like twins, but Meryl
insisted she's nothing like Miranda. Anne then quipped, "No, no, that
wasn't a question," quoting Miranda's famous line.
The Devil Wears Prada was a huge box office hit,
earning $326.7 million worldwide. The film's success led to Meryl Streep
winning a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy and receiving an Academy
Award nomination. Patricia Field, the costume designer, also earned an Academy
Award nomination.
