$1.3M Worth Of Hermes Bags Stolen In Hong Kong Store In 5 Minutes

 

A Hong Kong luxury goods store has compensated its clients after 66 Hermes handbags, valued at HK$10 million (US$1.3 million), were stolen in a brazen smash-and-grab robbery that lasted just five minutes.

The robbery took place last Saturday at the Ginza Xiaoma store, located on the 17th

floor of New World Tower on Queen’s Road Central in Hong Kong’s Central district.

According to police, three masked thieves entered the store at 7:41 a.m., smashing display cabinets and stealing the high-value handbags in large bags.

Security footage shows the robbers wearing caps using a battering ram to break through the glass entrance before quickly targeting the display cases, Shanghai Daily reported.

The thieves filled their bags with several Hermes models, including the Birkin 25, Birkin 30, Kelly 25, and Kelly 28, before fleeing the scene in a seven-seater car. In total, 67 handbags were stolen, although one was later recovered by police in a stairwell. Seven additional bags were damaged during the break-in.

The entire heist lasted within five minutes.

Photos from the scene show shattered glass scattered across the store and its entrance, highlighting the swift and destructive nature of the heist.

The Central police district crime squad is currently investigating the robbery, which has left many shocked by the thieves' precision and speed.

A spokesperson for the store confirmed that of the stolen and damaged items, 21 were consigned goods belonging to customers, while the rest were store-owned inventory, according to the South China Morning Post.

Ginza Xiaoma, described as Asia’s leading Hermes reseller, specializes in Hermes handbags and accessories and operates showrooms in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The store confirmed that, in line with its policy, it has fully compensated the consignors for their losses.
