United States–based Trinidadian rapper
and singer, Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has
threatened to file a lawsuit against a Nigerian social media user after an old
video of her resurfaced online.
The controversy began when
a Nigerian social media user, @drpenking, shared the clip on X on Saturday
alongside a caption suggesting the rapper should retire.
In the post, he wrote, “Nicki Minaj should understand that she has gotten old and
retire.”The comment drew the attention of
Nicki Minaj, who responded publicly and warned that the user had been added to
a legal action over the use of the video.
Reacting to the post, the
rapper wrote, “Do you have permission to use this video that I filmed years ago
to harass me on this or any other platform? You’ve just been added to the
suit.”
Nicki Minaj also tagged
another user, @TonyBuzbee2, asking the user to “check DM.”
The video shows Nicki Minaj recording
herself at a close-up angle while wearing a pink top and leaning toward the
camera as she briefly moves and flaunts her upper body during the 12-second
clip.
