First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has advised lactating mothers to make exclusive breastfeeding a priority.
She
said in her message to mark this year’s World Breastfeeding Week that exclusive
breastfeeding helps babies to grow healthy and strong.
The theme
of the event, which lasts between August 1 and 7 is “Breastfeeding for a
Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.”
Senator Tinubu, who joined the global community in commemorating the annual campaign, said lactating mothers should embrace healthy lifestyles and eat
nutritious foods to safeguard themselves and their babies.The First
Lady described breastfeeding as one of the most important investments families
and nations can make in securing the health and future of children.
“As we
commemorate World Breastfeeding Week 2026, I join the global community in
support of this year’s theme: ‘Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life:
Strengthen What Works’”, she said.
Senator
Tinubu stated that breastfeeding provides the foundation for a child’s lifelong
development and contributes significantly to the well-being of families and
national development.
“Breastfeeding
lays the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development,
making it a vital investment in families and a nation. I encourage mothers,
especially lactating mothers, to embrace healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious
foods for their well-being and that of their children,” she stated.
