For
quick healing of dry, cracked heels, a simple and effective method
involves an overnight application of a thick moisturizer like
vegetable oil or Vaseline, covered with socks. Regular exfoliation with a
pumice stone after a warm water soak is also essential.
Overnight Healing Method (Moisturize & Seal)
This method provides deep hydration and is most effective when done nightly
before bed.- Clean and Soak: Soak your feet in lukewarm (not hot) water for 10–15 minutes.
You can add a cup of honey or a splash of white vinegar to the water to
help soften the skin.
- Exfoliate: Gently use a pumice stone or foot scrubber to remove the dead,
thick skin from your heels.
- Dry: Pat your feet thoroughly dry with a soft towel.
- Moisturize and Cover: Apply a thick layer of your chosen kitchen ingredient:
1.
Vegetable/Coconut/Olive Oil: These
oils are rich in vitamins and readily absorbed by the skin. Apply generously.
2.
Vaseline and Lemon Juice: Mix
a teaspoon of Vaseline with a few drops of lemon juice and rub the mixture into
your heels.
3.
Mashed Banana: Mash
one to two ripe bananas into a smooth paste and apply it as a mask for 20
minutes before rinsing (this is not an overnight method).
4.
Wear Socks: Put
on a pair of clean cotton socks to lock in the moisture and prevent the mixture
from getting on your bedding.
5.
Wash in the Morning: Wash
your feet with warm water in the morning.
Repeat
this process daily until your heels are healed.
Additional Kitchen Scrubs
For
extra exfoliation a few times a week, you can use these simple scrubs:
- Rice Flour, Honey, and Vinegar Scrub: Mix 2 tbsp rice flour, 1
tsp honey, and a few drops of apple cider vinegar to form a thick paste.
After soaking your feet, gently scrub to clear off dead cells.
- Oatmeal and Olive Oil Paste: Blend 1 tbsp powdered
oatmeal with 4-5 drops of olive oil to make a thick paste. Apply it to the
affected area and leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing.
Prevention Tips
- Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Wear comfortable, supportive, closed-back shoes.
- Moisturize your feet regularly, especially after bathing.
If
your cracked heels do not improve with home remedies, are painful, bleeding, or
you have an underlying condition like diabetes, consult a podiatrist or
healthcare professional.
