Cambodia Denies Reports Ordering Africans To Leave Country By May 31

The Ministry of Interior of the Royal Government of Cambodia has dismissed as false reports claiming the country ordered Africans with expired immigration waivers to leave by May 31, 2026.

In a statement signed in Phnom Penh on Friday, the ministry said two Ghana-based media outlets recently published an English-language article titled “Cambodia Orders Africans with Expired Immigration Waivers to Leave by May 31, 2026,” alongside what it described as a falsified notice purportedly issued by Cambodia’s

General Department of Immigration.

The ministry “categorically” rejected what it called the fabrication of the public document and the dissemination of false information, describing the publications as a deliberate attempt to distort facts, mislead international public opinion, and damage the image and reputation of Cambodia.

According to the statement, Cambodia has never adopted any policy directing African nationals to leave the country as alleged in the reports.

Instead, the ministry said Cambodia remained open to foreigners who comply with the country’s legal requirements, including businesspersons, investors, tourists, and foreign workers, without discrimination.

“The Ministry would like to firmly clarify that Cambodia has never adopted any policy ordering African nationals to leave the country as falsely alleged in the fabricated reports,” the statement said.

The ministry also urged local and international media organisations to uphold professionalism and responsibility in the dissemination of information to avoid creating misunderstanding and misinformation about Cambodia within the international community.
