When it comes to your eye makeup
palette this season, pick a color, any color. Though you can't go wrong with a
shadow in jewel tones like emerald and sapphire blue. Start by filling-in your
entire lid with a creamy and colorful eyeliner to get the maximum opacity. Then
sweep a matching shadow across your entire lid. Don't be afraid to color
outside the lines—this is no time for caution. Pair your artfully painted eyes
with a hairstyle that serves as the ultimate blank canvas: a deep side ponytail
or pushed-back part.
Sometimes minor tweaks to your
beauty routine can really add up. Case in point: instead of tracing your
traditional cat-eye liner yet
again, continue the line done toward your inner corners, then about
half-way across your bottom lashlines. Consider it the significantly more
wearable version of all those floating black liner shapes from the spring 2017
runways. And when it comes to switching-up your hair, all you need to do is
flip it— literally. Toss your hair deep over to one side, creating a ton of
rumpled volume in the process. It lends a "who cares?" vibe to an
otherwise try-hard beauty look.
Unless your last name is Von Teese,
most of us only reach for a red lipstick when the special occasion calls for
it. That's because a red lip demands powdery skin, stark black liner, and coats
of mascara–it's the opposite of effortless. But what if it wasn't? We're
calling this look the relaxed red lip. Strip away almost all other makeup, whip
your hair into fuzzy bedhead, and then put all your focus and attention on
creating a statement-making cherry lip done in a velvety matte finish. The
contrast of raw, natural skin and rumpled waves against the bright lip looks
just about as cool as it comes.
If we could travel back in time,
we'd invest all our money in highlighter manufacturing and technology (perhaps
a new Timecop sequel?). The world can't
get enough of glowing, shiny, sparkly skin. This season allows you to embrace
your inner magpie to the fullest, with skin so highlighted it looks permanently
lit by a Lumee case. Swipe a cream highlighter over your cheekbones, down the
bridge of your nose, along your cupid's bow, and dab it on the inner corners of
your eyes. Then do another layer. And then another. If it's still not enough,
dip a small brush in a shimmery silver pigment and sweep it on top to amplify
the effect. Don't apply a drop of other makeup save for a touch of concealer
here or there. Double-down on the shine factor with pin-straight hair.
