Kim Kardashian has
responded to the claims that she used blackface to promote her new
makeup line – by insisting that she was just really tanned when
taking the photos.
The 36-year-old caused
controversy when she released promo photos of her new contouring kit but fans
claimed her skin looked a lot darker than normal in the shots, accusing her of
using ‘blackface’.
But Kim has now spoken out in
defence of herself, insisting she meant no offence and claiming she was just
tanned during the shoot.
‘I would obviously never want
to offend anyone,’ the 36-year-old reality star declared in the New York Times on Monday.
‘I used an amazing
photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images,
and it might be that the contrast was off.
Kim, who has two children with
her black husband Kanye West, also promised that she had ‘the utmost respect
for why people might feel the way they did.’
‘We made the necessary changes
to that photo and the rest of the photos,’ she said.
‘We saw the problem, and we
adapted and changed right away. Definitely I have learned from it.’
Some Twitter users have now
come to the socialite’s defence, although there are still some who don’t buy
her apology, with one sarcastically suggesting Kim was just advertising the
‘different shades of highlight and contour on herself’.
