It is true that one of the standout trends seen on the
Spring 2019 runways
was monochrome, mainly beige and black. On the flip side, labels like
Paco Rabanne and
Koché gave us
hypnotizing prints, which they stirred together brilliantly with patchwork and
surprising layering techniques. And while certainly a cadre of showgoers
adopted the more sober tones of the season—those mimicking Riccardo Tisci’s new
Burberry in nude-colored ensembles, for example, or the crowd of Philophiles
paying tribute to old Céline in their earth-colored trousers, knits, and
accessories—there were plenty who went in the other direction. Specifically,
printed pants of every make seemed to be the look du jour on the streets in
Paris this past week.
There were paisley-print suits and
boot-cut pants with bright zebra stripes. Some layered neon dresses and tops
over their striped bottoms, while others mixed and matched with floral-print
trousers. It was
as if they’d taken notes from the collections they’d just
seen, those that highlighted the power of mashing up textures and varying
motifs. It’s a bold wardrobe move for fall, but one worth paying attention to
and investing in.
See below some of the street style.
