The Duchess of Sussex join Prince Harry at the UK
premiere of The Lion King, which honours the conservation work he
undertakes through The Royal Foundation. The couple walked hand in hand down
the yellow paw-printed carpet to meet the cast and crew behind the film, before
watching director Jon Favreau’s reimagined version of the Disney classic
alongside them.
Meghan
wore a classic black satin fit and flare dress with sheer neck and sleeves by
Jason Wu, which she complemented with Gucci’s “Broadway” clutch bag,
Aquazzura’s “Portrait Of Lady” pumps and Nikos Koulis’s diamond and black
enamel earrings.
In
line with The Lion King’s release date on July 19, Disney has launched
a global campaign called
Protect the Pride, which aims to safeguard the
decreasing lion population. “Since The Lion King was first released in
theatres 25 years ago, half of Africa’s lions have disappeared,” the palace
said in a statement earlier this week. “Lions face rising threats, such as
poaching, loss of prey and destruction of habitats. However, research shows the
lion population can recover.”
When
the palace announced the Duchess’s attendance earlier this week, the internet
went into overdrive imagining
Meghan and Beyoncé, who voices the character Nala, in the same space, after
the “Formation” singer gave the royal a shout-out at the Brit Awards in
February. Unable to make it to London’s O2 Arena to collect the statuette for
Best International Group, Bey and Jay-Z sent the crowd apesh*t with a
pre-recorded version of their music video in the Louvre. Instead of standing in
front of the Mona Lisa, the couple stood beside a painting of Meghan.
“In honour of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas,”
the couple said via Instagram.
The
pop megastar and her husband arrived at the premiere shortly after the Duke and
Duchess, with Beyoncé wearing a gold lamé Cong Tri gown that befit the colour
scheme of the film’s promo campaign. As pictures of the foursome conversing
emerging, the social-media frenzy ensued right on time. Could this be the new
Fab Four?
